The Site Characterization window displays a plan view of the surface of the contaminated site. Upon selection of a Transport Simulation, this map is overlaid with a plan view of the mathematical grid used in the simulation. This allows selective positioning of the Population Locus icon which, in turn, selects a physical location from the subsequent transport simulation to use in exposure and risk calculations.
Positioning of the Contaminant Source icon 
and Sink 
icon is determined by the input data to the selected simulation. Clicking on these icons displays location and flow rates of the sinks and sources.
Future versions of SELECT will incorporate interfaces to popular Geographical Information Systems (GIS) such as ARC/INFO, ArcView and InterGraph MicroStation.
