Biographical Summary

I am a staff scientist in the Earth Science Division of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and lead scientist (Earth Sciences) for the Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory (DUSEL) Project. Since completing graduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley, I have worked at LBNL on problems of flow and transport in both soil and rock. This has included investigating the hydrology of terrestrial ecosystems (Elder Creek Watershed, Mendocino County), and fractured rock systems at Box Canyon (Idaho), Yucca Mountain (Nevada), and DUSEL (South Dakota).

Research Interests

Studying subsurface components of the earth's water cycle as they are impacted by soil, rock, plants and climate change.
