Rui Zhang works as a postdoc fellow at Earth Sciences Division, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He received his PhD in Geophysics from University of Houston in 2010 with professor John Castagna. His PhD project was to develop a basis pursuit seismic inversion method with sparse layer decomposition. He did a 2-year postdoc research later at University of Texas at Austin with professors Mrinal Sen and Sanjay Srinivasan. This postdoc research was focused on the CO2 sequestration study with time-lapse surface seismic data from Cranfield, associated with Center for Frontiers of Subsurface Energy Security (CFSES)- a DOE funded EFRC Center.
My current research is focused on the seismic modeling for anisotropic media related to CO2 injection with validation of InSalah field data.
My research interests include reflection seismology and inverse theory for subsurface property characterization. My current project is working on seismic modeling and inversion for anisotropic media related to CO2 injection.
