Climate Sciences Department

Core Capabilities

Overview

The Berkeley Lab Earth Sciences Division's newest department (founded in April 2007), the Climate Sciences Department is dedicated to atmospheric and climate science. With roughly a dozen distinguished scientists, specialists, and technicians, this world-class team will lead the Earth Sciences Division towards creating a new kind of climate model, integrating cutting-edge climate science, such as the pioneering work on the carbon cycle conducted at Berkeley Lab, and drawing on work by scientists at UC Berkeley and other universities and national laboratories. The goal is not to predict climate alone, but also to predict the interactions among climate, water, and energy on a global scale. The current Climate Sciences Department Head is Bill Collins.
