Earth Sciences Division

The 1st International Symposium on "Dynamics of Fluids in Fractured Rocks: Concepts and Recent Advances" was held at Ernest Orlando Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory on February 10-12, 1999, to honor the 80th Birthday of Paul A. Witherspoon. For the event, we brought together an international group of about 230 scientists and engineers from the different Earth science fields to discuss the various problems in these fields and to exchange ideas on new approaches for research on fractured rock.

The Proceedings, including over 100 extended abstracts of presentation given at the Symposium, were published before the Symposium. (If you need a copy of the 1999 Symposium Proceedings, please contact Boris Faybishenko at The monograph “Dynamics of Fluids in Fractured Rock” (Boris Faybishenko, Paul A. Witherspoon, and Sally M. Benson, Editors), containing 26 selected papers was published by AGU in the Geophysical Monograph Series, Volume 122, 2000. (The Monograph can be purchased at the AGU website
