Site Description
Fremont Canal Drain is located immediately east and about 50 yards from the Mud Slough gauging station. This station receives drainage from the wetland units immediately to the west of Hwy 165 supplied by Kesterson Ditch and Fremont Canal. Fremont Canal Drain is a small capacity channel with a maximum discharge capacity of about 50cfs. Water levels vary considerably and the site is frequently affected by backwater conditions because of the close proximity of the confluence with Mud Slough. For this reason a SONTEK accoustic velocity sensor was chosen for the site – however rather than the side beam transducer - the model selected makes a point measurement of velocity. The width of the channel (approximately 15 ft) is too narrow to deploy the Sontek SL transducers.
