Site Description

Volta Wasteway obtains supply principally from the Delta Mendota Canal but can also be supplied from the CCID Main Canal. The Volta Wasteway is the primary supply canalfor the Northern Division of the Grassland Water District. Volta wasteway empties into Pond 10 on the Volta Refuge at the east-side of which are several outlet structures including Spillway Ditch Mosquito Ditch and the Malia Ditch headworks. Surface water is conveyed along these delivery canals to duck clubs in the Northern Division of GWD. The Volta Wasteway can accommodate flows in excess of 500 cfs. When supplied by the Delta Mendota Canal water supply tends to be of better quality with a typical EC range of between 400 and 900 uS/cm. Water obtained from the main Canal is typically degraded with an EC that can sometimes rise as high as 1400 uS/cm.
