Molecular Microbial Biology
The projects within molecular microbial biology research conducted in the Environmental Remediation & Water Resources Program largely focus on characterizing microbial properties and processes as a function of environmental perturbations. Such work seeks to understand the ability of bacteria and other organisms to respond to and survive external stresses, such as those brought about by the introduction of contaminants or remediation treatments. A significant fraction of research in this area is funded by DOE Genomes-to-Life and relies on the use and advance of gene arrays and synchrotron characterization approaches.
