Roger Seitz
Advisory Scientist, Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL)
Roger Seitz has over 25 years of experience in radioactive and hazardous waste management. He is currently providing technical support to the DOE Office of Environmental Management, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and the Savannah River Site on performance assessment (PA) related activities. His career has included research and applied projects related to disposal facilities for low-level waste (LLW), mixed LLW, high-level waste and naturally occurring radioactive material as well as Decontamination & Decommissioning (D&D) of reactor facilities, primarily in the area of PA.
Roger has been the lead and a technical contributor on PAs for disposal facilities at three DOE sites (Hanford, Idaho, and Savannah River) and D&D of reactor facilities at Idaho. He has served as a consultant and peer reviewer on PA issues for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, served on the U.S. National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements Scientific Committee developing guidance for PAs, and was the Idaho Site representative on the DOE Headquarters Performance Assessment Task Team. He has also served as a peer reviewer on assessments for LLW disposal at Idaho, Savannah River and Hanford. Internationally, he has provided technical support to the International Atomic Energy Agency for more than 15 years, including five years as a staff member at IAEA Headquarters in Vienna. His support has addressed assessments of specific disposal/remediation activities in Belarus, Brazil, China, and Malaysia, and he has also provided expert assistance on general waste management activities and assessment methods in more than 10 different countries.
