Earth Sciences Division (ESD) Department of Energy (DOE) Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL)

Integrated Functional Appraisal (IFA)

The Integrated Functional Appraisal (IFA) was a key component of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s (LBNL’s) integrated safety management (ISM) system, and formed one of the three tiers of LBNL’s Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) self-assessment program. The Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) Division conducted an IFA for each Laboratory Division every three years.

The IFA is a technical review of formal authorization requirements which includes: Activity Hazard Documents, Biological Use Authorizations, Radiological Work Authorizations, etc. The IFA is performed by Division Liaisons and supported with EH&S subject matter experts with joint oversight by the EH&S Division and the Office of Contract Assurance. You can find more details from the Office of Contract Assurance IFA website.
