When a paper of yours has been accepted, the publishing journal typically sends to you (either along with the note of acceptance or shortly thereafter) a transfer of copyright agreement form, either electronically or by regular mail. In place of whatever language the journal proposes, you should impose the following statement (authorized by the LBNL Patent Department), either where the journal invites such language or somewhere plainly visible on the form:
This statement is available on labels (“stickers”) that may be attached to a journal’s hard-copy of the transfer of copyright agreement form or may be copy/pasted into the form if the form is to be submitted on-line. Please contact your local administrative point of contact or the ESD Report Coordinator if you need such a sticker or further assistance. Note that if you or another LBNL author is not the lead author of the paper, you need not impose this statement. If you are the corresponding author but not the lead author, please confer with the lead author to decide how you would like to handle this issue.
