Facilities Management

The Division's role in Facilities Management is to coordinate and oversee the safe, secure, and environmentally sound operations and maintenance of LBNL's buildings and infrastructure it occupies. Below are some resources and information that will help ESD staff members support the Division's role and to facilitate the needs of on-going research at the Lab.

Building Management

Conference Rooms

There are multiple conference rooms located throughout the Lab. You can find a list of conference rooms from Facilities' website. Staff and guests can make their own  reservations for a room but they must have an LDAP ( email and calendar account (supported by google). Contact your local administrative staff for additional help or room reservations.

Holiday Shutdown Forms

Researchers needing special monitoring of experiments during the Holiday Shutdown should make sure this information is included in the Special Needs memo and/or Request for Utility Interruption form and submitted to Facilities by their respective building manager.  These documents must be received by Facilities by a specific date.  Please contact your Building Manager for the current deadline. A Level-1 email notification will also be sent as a reminder.

Salvage and E-Waste Management

Staff can excess property and other items from non-technical (mostly office) areas by salvaging items from their local buildings. Contact your local administrative staff for additional guidance. Review the Salvage and E-Waste Management website for the most current information. For Hazardous Waste Management, contact the Division Safety Coordinator to ensure that you are managing the waste appropriately. Read more »

Space Management

The Berkeley Lab's policy on space management is to maximize the use of this resource in a planned, judicious, and cost-effective manner while minimizing disruption of activities. Each Division is responsible for managing the utilization of space assigned to it. Facilities Planning works with each Division to monitor compliance with space utilization policy. Read more »

Vehicle Reservations

Vehicles from LBNL's Motorpool Fleet can be reserved by staff and guests provided certain approvals are obtained. Check for vehicles that may be available at your local buildings that can be reserved for 2 hour periods and short distances. ESD does have a sedan vehicle that it manages in Building 90 and other specialized vehicles for field work. Read more »
