The Paul A. Witherspoon Distinguished Seminar
Series within the Earth Sciences Division of Lawrence Berkeley
National Laboratory was established to honor Professor Paul
A. Witherspoon, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Geological
Engineering at the University of California Berkeley and Lawrence
Berkeley National Laboratory. Professor Witherspoon has been
a key figure over many decades in developing the methodology
for characterizing and modeling fluid flow and contaminant transport
in fractured rock systems.
The
Paul A. Witherspoon Distinguished Seminar
Series brings to LBNL eminent individuals holding international
reputations in the scientific community whose research is outstanding,
interdisciplinary, and of broad interest to strategic initiatives
in the earth sciences. Speakers in the seminar series will normally
spend a full day with researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National
Laboratory and the University of California Berkeley. The highlight
of the day will be a lecture by the speaker to the Earth Sciences
Division and one hundred to three hundred invited guests. The
speaker will also meet with individuals or in small groups to
discuss topics of mutual interest within the speakers
research area.
